Brescia Streetlighting

One of the most important cities in northern Italy, Brescia, has decided to carry out a major energy-saving project: they will replace all of the city street lighting with latest generation Italo LED devices. Thus, the City estimates a 40% reduction in annual energy consumption, about 8 million euro in 10 years.

Year 2015 is the year dedicated to light all over the world and just this year the Municipality of Brescia has decided to change all the street lights of the city and replace them with new latest generation LED appliances from the Italian company AEC Illuminazione.

Brescia has an area of 90.34 km2 with a population of nearly 200,000. The city currently consumed more than 18 million kWh of electricity. With the new LED lighting the City estimates a 40% reduction in annual energy consumption: an advantage which translates into significant savings in the accounts of the City which has been calculated at about 8 million in 10 years.

Benefits of LED lighting

LED lighting results in greater efficiency and greater cost savings for the government. What’s more, LEDs have a very long life cycle and this results in a lower quantity of lamps damaged and limited need for maintenance: estimations are that less than 2,500 lamps will be damaged and less than 10,000 lamps will be replaced each year.

Energy saving, longer life, lower maintenance costs and management also have consequences in terms of environment. 40% less energy consumption leads to a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. The durability of the LEDs prevent the production of more than 1.5 tons of electrical and electronic waste each year. The replacement of the old lamps eliminates any presence of mercury and other harmful substances in accordance with the regulations. Finally, ITALO’s optics will allow better lighting in the streets of the city guaranteeing safety and visible comfort for the user.

Italian cities for efficiency

We already reported that Milan has also opted for the ITALO technology, which has allowed 51.8% savings on energy costs and savings in overhead public accounts of up to 31%. But there are also many other Italian and foreign cities illuminated by AEC, which will become an example for Italy and the world, promoting a new way of thinking about light: more efficient and smarter.

This is a new success for the Italian company that has won the tender and has started delivering more than 16,000 luminaires. ITALO will give new light to the streets of Brescia. The product has become a benchmark in the world for street lighting.

AEC has excelled in terms of technology, guaranteeing the best performance, and in terms of energy savings. “With no doubt we achieve this new success thanks to our extraordinary production capacity. We have fully automated production lines which guarantee speed of response and, in the case of Brescia, have allowed us to deliver the first products already in August, “said Alessandro Cini, head of AEC.
