These calculations have been released today by the Industry and Energy Deputy Minister of the Basque Government, Xabier Garmendia, at the opening of the summer courses organized by the Vocational Training center Somorrostro in Muskiz until 6 July under the title “Professional Training, Energy, Employment and Sustainability”. The Deputy Minister considered that in the next five years, 17 percentenergy savings will be achieved by the use of electric vehicles, renewable energy and efficiency in buildings.
On the opening day of these courses, as reported by the training center Somorrostro, marine energy generation has also been addressed through the Bimep Euskadi project. This project envisages the construction between the Viscaya towns of Armintza and Lemoiz of an infrastructure for the research and development of wave energy. With a budget of 20 million euros and a generating capacity of 20 megawatts (MW), the facility is expected to be fully operational by summer 2013.
Javier Marqués head of the Basque Energy Organisation (Ente Vasco de la Energia) stressed the strategic importance of developing these technologies for Euskadi and warned that “a stable economic and regulatory framework governing the development of marine energy is urgently needed “.
Petronor CEO Victor Perez de Guezuraga, Muskiz deputy mayor Gonzalo Riancho, and the director of the courses, Juan Manuel Seco also made their contribution at the opening of the courses.
