Energy efficiency is one of the policies that put the brake on climate change and promote the development of sustainable societies. All this is made possible through the use of renewable energy. This is the reason why the World Energy Efficiency Day is celebrated every year on March 5, a prominent date in the calendar born 15 years ago, when experts made the decision to tackle the energy crisis and address possible solutions.
It can be any day, but tomorrow will be a most propitious occasion to reflect upon the wise use we give energy and act accordingly.
Energy efficiency does not mean sacrificing quality of life, instead it means obtaining the same energy goods and services using fewer resources to do so. The reality is that the benefits of energy efficiency result in a greater well-being for citizens, increased security, and a benefit to the environment with significant savings in CO2 emissions.
José Manuel Entrecanales Foundation wishes to remind that “we can be efficient in many of our daily life”s aspects, such as using energy saving light bulbs, installing mechanisms that turn off lights when not in use, using smart thermostats that regulate temperature or thermal insulation, and many other savings mechanisms, because what is certain is that the cheapest energy is that which is not consumed. ” Most people consume more than necessary and monthly bills do not offer useful information to reduce the figures. The renowned physicist Lord Kelvin Thomson already stated nearly a century ago: “if you can not measure it you can not improve it”. New technologies have much to contribute in this field because more precise custom data are required, and these are achieved through the introduction of an energy management software. This entails a minimal investment that allows to reflect in detail the use of resources, and that once assessed can save a good percentage in the final bill.
Luis Rivera, Director Entrecanales Foundation stresses that “we must increase public awareness about the need for energy efficiency. In this sense we must emphasize and highlight that many are the entrepreneurs devoting great efforts to savings in this field in Spain, constituting a breath of fresh air for the business fabric in addition to a considerable source of job creation. ” These initiatives respond to the goal that motivated the FJME creation more than three years ago: promote innovative business projects that contribute to sustainable economic development and promote culture and society”s commitment to sustainability. A sustainability with which we must today commit more than ever.
