Acciona Energy will double next year its power supply to Metro de Madrid after winning 46% of the total energy tender called by the metropolitan transport company for 2015 for an amount of 19.8 million euro. This energy is supplied with electricity exclusively from renewable sources, 100% emissions free and certified as such by the CNMC.
The contract between Metro de Madrid and Acciona Energíaincludes the supply of 308 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity to power the traction points and facilities of the suburban transport’s concessionaire in Madrid for the entire 2015.
This supply contract means to double the total annual energy supplied from the previous contract and substantially increase the participation of Acciona in the total tendered by Metro, which increases from 21% to 46%.
Marketer of large customers
The company, through its subsidiary Acciona Green Energy Developments, continues to consolidate its business of selling electricity to large customers, which last year accounted for associated revenues of 367 million euro.
Acciona Energy supplies electricity exclusively from renewable sources, 100% emissions free, certified as such by the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC). In 2013 it supplied 5,110 GWh, 55% more than in the previous year.
Acciona Green Energy Developments’ customers include in addition other relevant industrial and service companies, as Aena, Seat-Volkswagen, Canal de Isabel II Gestión and Acuamed.
What is the certified renewable energy?
The CNMC offers upon request of the renewable energy producers a certification of the kWh generated. These certificates called “Guarantees of Origin (Gdos)”, can be transferred to marketers that may wish to justify the “green” image of the electricity they sell.
The Gdos and Labelling of Electricity system was implemented by the National Energy Commission (now CNMC) in December 2007 with the aim of informing consumers about the detailed origin of the energy received and the associated environmental impact.
The accreditation of Guarantee of Origin was born with Directive 2001/77 / EC, which talks about the momentum of electricity produced from renewable energy sources and the need to guarantee the origin of electricity. As for the application at the state level, the order ITC/1522/2007 is drawn from Directive 2001/77 / EC to establish this accreditation in the State.
There are already marketers of renewable energy in place. Any consumer, regardless of their geographical location and consumption volume can already contract Green Energy, without making any changes to their plants or their consumption habits.
Acciona Energia
In year 2013 Acciona Energia revenues remained virtually unchanged accounting to 2,120 million euro (+ 0.6%), mainly due to the increase in wind and hydro production and the contribution of 105 MW of new capacity installed in the last twelve months, which have partially mitigated the 257 million euro impact resulting from successive regulatory changes in the sector in Spain. These changes are reflected appreciably in the reduction by 13% of the business EBITDA, which stood at 979 million euro, and a drop of 95.9% in income before taxes, which fell to 6.7 million euro.
The total annual output of ACCIONA Energia amounted to 22,404 GWh and at the end of the year, Acciona had 8,480 MW of total installed capacity, of which 5,974 MW in Spain.
