New Siemens Gamesa record in the Asian market

Siemens Gamesa has set a new record in the Asian market by installing the highest wind turbines across the continent. The turbines feature 153 meters height towers, which coupled with the 56 meters length blades, allow the machines to reach a total height of 210 meters.

The project – owned by Thai engineering Gunkul and being built by the developer PowerChina ZhongNan – has a total power of 67.5 MW with 33 wind turbines of the G114-2.0 and G114-2.1 MW models.

Siemens Gamesa has already installed the 33 wind turbines in the Sarahnlom park, located in the central Nakhon Ratchasima province, which will be operational this year. In addition, the company will be in charge of the wind farm operation and maintenance over the next ten years, the company said in a statement.

This milestone demonstrates the company’s full potential for R & D,” said Álvaro Bilbao, CEO of Siemens Gamesa in the Asia-Pacific region. “Thanks to our wind turbines versatility we are demonstrating again and again our ability to meet the market requirements,” he added.

Asian market

In addition to Thailand, Siemens Gamesa is present in other Asian countries such as Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, China and India, which in practice translates into more than 11,000 MW installed in those markets.

Meanwhile, last July the company announced a contract with the Turkish investor Sancak Enerji for the supply of 118 MW in two wind farms located in the Konya region. It is also the first contract that the company signs in Europe for the supply of the 3.3 MW platform designed to guarantee the minimum cost of energy in a wide variety of sites.

To meet this and other potential contracts, Siemens Gamesa is expanding its Ágreda plant in Soria with new premises to manufacture the hubs – one of the turbine components where the blades are inserted – of the new 3.3 MW turbine model.
