The European wind industry comes together in Bilbao, one of the sector´s innovation hubs with the greatest projection of the continent. The Bilbao Exhibition Center (BEC) will host WindEurope 2019 Conference & Exhibition organized by the European Wind Association and will attract business, technological and political leaders. This event, opened today by King Felipe VI, will bring together more than 7,000 professionals and 300 exhibitors from 50 countries.

WindEurope 2019 is the opportunity to analyze and debate, among other topics, the roadmap for wind energy; the challenges of system integration; offer a fair energy transition for all Europeans; achieve the appropriate framework for the repowering and the extension for life and the marketing of floating marine wind.

Spanish wind is committed to installing more than 4 GW of onshore wind power by 2020, and 2.5 GW per year until 2030

In Spain, the installation of the new wind power planned for 2020 is an opportunity for market growth and has positive effects for the country. Spanish wind is committed to installing more than 4 GW of onshore wind power by 2020, and 2.5 GW per year until 2030. Spain has an important wind energy supply chain that provides jobs to more than 22,500 people.

The Wind Business Association (AEE) is the only Spanish national partner in WindEurope 2019. As for the opening ceremony, the assistance of the Minister for Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, is also planned; the lehendakari of the Basque Government, Íñigo Urkullu; the president of WindEurope, Gunnar Groebler, and Juan Virgilio Márquez, CEO of AEE will also be present.

Likewise, the participation of other authorities in the matter is also programmed, such as the Minister of Economic Development and Infrastructures of the Basque Government, Arantxa Tapia; the Minister of Environment and Energy Transition of Portugal, João Pedro Matos Fernandes; or the Minister of Environment and Energy of Croatia, Tomislav Ćorić. At the meeting with the media, representatives of the event’s ambassador companies will also participate: Iberdrola, Siemens-Gamesa and TPI Composites.
