Photovoltaic monitoring systems renovated in record time

photovoltaic monitoring systems for solar plants.

Meteocontrol GmbH offers plant owners and operators a complete and efficient package to quickly and inexpensively renovate photovoltaic monitoring systems for solar plants. The Augsburg photovoltaic supplier changed in less than a day the monitoring solution used in the “Abuzaderas” 3 MW solar park, prone to breakdowns, by the highly efficient Meteocontrol system.

The great instability of data transmission and the increasingly frequent failures of the bus system led the operator Tauber-Solar to consider it necessary to change as quickly as possible the monitoring system of the “Abuzaderas” photovoltaic plant located in the south-east of Spain, and install a new monitoring solution. The contract was awarded to the photovoltaic service provider Meteocontrol.

The change of the “Abuzaderas” solar park system took place in less than a day. “Something that explains this is undoubtedly the modularity and scalability of our products. We can easily integrate the data loggers in operation in the available IT environment and re-group the data in the monitoring portal in a complete plant,” explains Martin Schneider, director of Meteocontrol. The new solution includes high performance meteocontrol data loggers, combined with a remote monitoring platform from the company.

Reliable and efficient photovoltaic monitoring

The system allows monitoring plants with simplicity, reliability and cost efficiency in a unitary web platform, the company said in a statement. Its numerous analysis and alarm functions offer operators a reliable tool to ensure long-term performance.

Another factor that made such rapid change possible was that Meteocontrol specialists had performed the engineering tasks beforehand at the company’s headquarters in Augsburg. In addition, they were able to install the relevant accessories, such as the RS485 hub, on the field.

“The specialists at Meteocontrol, marked by their experience, convinced by offering a wide and competent advice. Thanks to them, the transition to a cost-effective and very easy to use solution was quick and safe“, explains Martin Schmitt, director of Tauber-Solar service center. The simple integration of the solution into the Meteocontrol system has led the company to consider carrying out the same renovation in other photovoltaic plants.

Meteocontrol says it is taking increasing orders from photovoltaic plants operators that wish to install a reliable monitoring system. The company explains that the reasons are varied: the system in operation does not correspond to the specifications, is not correctly installed or is very prone to malfunctions due to the instability of the data sending.

“A monitoring system that does not work properly and whose supplier is no longer active in the market is a real problem for the technical management. In these cases, a rapid remodeling is of great importance and is viable for customers thanks to the fixed price offer, “explains Martin Schneider.
