The self-consumption installation for solar pumping, located in the town of Albatana, covers an area of 0.5 hectares and has an installed capacity of 190.8 kWp. This energy will be used in the operation of a pumping station for the irrigation of a 900 hectares land dedicated mainly to woody crops (vineyards, olive trees, almond trees…). It will propel the water from the existing accumulation pond to the irrigation network.
The plant has been sized for a discharge volume of 1.5 million cubic meters of water throughout the year, although at present, less water is used during the irrigation campaign. It is a pioneering project between POWEN and the SAT of Albatana.
It is estimated that it will provide annual savings in excess of 25,000 euro. And it is expected to exceed six hundred thousand euro in 25 years. In addition, the plant will prevent the exposure to continuous increases in energy costs that have jeopardized viability of several agricultural exploitations in recent years.
The control over the installation is total thanks to the different systems that monitor the plant through mobile devices, according to a statement by POWEN, the company specializing in energy self-consumption through photovoltaic solar installations that has carried out the project.

Jacobo Martínez, director of POWEN Agrícola claims: “electricity costs are currently one of the major costs for agricultural holdings. With traditional systems, energy expenditure increases year after year and remains out of the control of the farmer“. POWEN systems allow recovering that control and significantly reduce the holding electricity bill.
