LED in Milan

The Italian city of Milan has become an efficient, safe and environmentally sustainable place, because on the occasion of the Expo 2015, the Universal Exhibition which opened last first of May, the second largest city in Italy reinvents and presents itself under a new, more efficient, safe and environmentally sustainable light, thanks to 100,000 luminaries of the ITALO series.

Milan was the first metropolitan city in Europe that decided to completely renovate the street lighting choosing LED technology.

AEC Illuminazione

AEC Illuminazione,, which was awarded the tender organized by A2A S.p.A., has installed 100,000 luminaries of the ITALO  series in the city.

Considerable savings in energy costs and maintenance, innovative design and high quality of services of the ITALO luminaire are some of the reasons that convinced the municipality of Milan to install ITALO in its streets.

AEC has always been very concerned about issues related to ecology, the environment and sustainability and anyone can sense the company’s passion and constant commitment to achieve an effective product in terms of functionality and environmental sustainability.

Savings of 10 million euro

The “Milan LED” project has reduced energy costs by 51.8% and overheads by 31%. This has resulted in cost savings of 10 million euro in 2015.

With this renewal plan Milan has become one of the world’s most modern Smart City. The city has chosen LED technology: an ecological choice that will bring huge benefits to the city and the environment.

This twenty-first century technology has allowed Milan to get huge advantages and benefits for the environment. Each year 23,650 tons of CO2 emissions will be prevented year on year and 60,000 less lamps will be replaced saving more than 9 tons of electronic waste each year. Finally, all pollutants, such as mercury, found in the old lamps have been removed.

ITALO Technology

The new luminaires ITALO ensure a comfortable, uniform light and best visibility for citizens. The use of new technology has resulted in increased reliability, safety and efficiency, and has been the best solution in terms of performance and quality of light.

This model of luminaries has changed Milan urban design fully respecting regulations on light pollution. In fact the brightness of the LED source is directed towards all the streets and sidewalks without emitting light towards the sky.

Milan’s light has proved to be an innovative choice that has transformed the city into a modern, efficient and environmentally friendly place. “We are proud to have contributed to an improved energy efficiency and to the environment of a big city and we are ready for a new challenge: the Turin” explains Alessandro Cini, CEO of AEC.

In fact the company will participate in another major urban renewal plan: illuminate Turin with more than 45,000 luminaires of the ITALO series. “LED technology is once again confirmed as the best choice that a city can make as for street lighting” concludes Cini.
