ACCIONA is to build a 424-MW wind farm in Reynosa, in the state of Tamaulipas, northeast of Mexico for Mexican company Zuma Energía. Once in operation it will be Mexico’s largest wind farm capable of supplying about one million inhabitants. The project amounts to approximately 600 million dollars, about 510 million euro.
The Reynosa wind farm project comprises the engineering, supply, construction, installation and testing of civil works, medium voltage network, the power evacuation system and the interconnection to the wind farm network.
ACCIONA will build the foundations for 123 wind turbines of 3.45-3.6 MW and 120 meters of hub height, as well as the roads and accesses to them. In addition, it will install the medium voltage network at 34.5 Kv for the entire wind farm; The 400 kv high voltage grid with three substations – two transformers and one interconnection – and 40 kilometers of double-circuit lines.
This project is part of the second long-term electric auction organized by the Secretary of Energy (SENER) and the National Energy Control Center (CENACE) of the Government of Mexico and held in September 2016. In the same, Zuma Energia was the winner of a total package of 725 MW in renewable energies, 424 MW of which will be met by the Reynosa wind farm.
The largest wind farm in Mexico
In this regard, Zuma Energia´s CEO Adrian Katzew noted: “This is a great achievement for Zuma, a company that in just three years, has established a power generation portfolio of 800 MW, secured financing for its largest project while it has positioned itself as the leading Mexican company in the renewable energies sector in the country. It also constitutes a sound evidence of Mexican´s energy sector transformation, where renewable energies are increasingly relevant in economic and environmental sustainability matters”.
“Our experience in the energy sector and in large-scale projects allows us to deal reliably with a benchmark facility such as the Reynosa Wind Farm,” said Eduardo Marcos Llavallol, director of ACCIONA Industrial México.
With this project, ACCIONA strengthens its position as a leading player in the renewables sector in Mexico, with 556MW in operation, as well as in the execution of projects for third parties, the company says in a statement recalling that it covers the Renewable generation entire value chain: development and design, engineering, construction, installations, maintenance and energy marketing.
