Siemens wind energy

Siemens is committed along with Pattern Energy Group LP to deliver, install and maintain a total of 141 wind turbines for the Broadview Wind project that combines two adjacent projects in New Mexico and Texas, with a total installed capacity of 324 megawatts (MW).

Both onshore wind farms will provide clean energy to meet the energy needs of about 180,000 average American homes. Siemens is expected to begin the installation of the 2.3 MW wind turbines this month; with the start of operations in the fourth quarter of 2016.

The company has also signed a long-term service and maintenance contract for the wind turbines. This contract includes diagnostic and remote monitoring services by Siemens, which offers a proactive approach to service and maintenance to help strengthen the performance of wind turbines during their lifetime.

The New Mexico part of the Broadview project (located near Broadview, a unincorporated town in Curry County, east of New Mexico, about 46 kilometers north of the city of Clovis) will have 105 wind turbines for a total of 241 MW. The part of Texas (located in Deaf Smith County, about 160 kilometers southwest of Amarillo) will have 36 wind turbines for a total of 83 MW.

North American wind belt

Siemens will deliver its SWT-2.3-108 wind turbine with a rotor diameter of 108 meters and a hub height of 80 meters. The improved generation option installed provides additional electrical output in high wind conditions.

Both sites have constant winds associated with the currents of the North American “wind belt”. The blades for this project will be manufactured at Siemens blades manufacturing plant in Fort Madison, Iowa. Nacelles and hubs will be assembled at Siemens facilities in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Siemens Financial Services (SFS) division

The Siemens Financial Services (SFS) division is supporting the project with loans totaling nearly 100 million dollars. Funds provided by SFS will be used to support customer equity participation in the transaction, both during construction and after.

“Siemens is proud to provide a sustainable solution to Pattern Development to contribute to the U.S:A.´s efforts to reduce greenhouse gases emissions,” explains Thomas Richterich, CEO Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Division for onshore projects.

“With our broad portfolio and our extensive experience in wind generation we help increase the proportion of wind power in the US energy mix. Thanks to the proximity of New Mexico to important areas of wind power, the state is poised to take an important role for the wind energy sector in this region“.
