Since in 2013 the German Solarwatt decided to cooperate with the electrical division of BMW, much of their efforts have been aimed at providing solutions for off grid renewable power generation. Its energy storage system MyReserve could become one of the most usual elements of the houses of the future.
Solarwatt is a renowned German manufacturer of solar photovoltaic glass offering complete systems of high quality double glass that replace tiles on rooftops or can be integrated into facades. Noteworthy is that it is manufactured in Germany, offers 30-year warranty and proposes various mounting systems.
€ 59,000 savings in 30 years
Solarwatt poses up to € 59,000 euros of savings in 30 years with a 10kWp installation, an average production per kWp of 950kWp, energy self-consumption of 70% and a price increase in electricity costs by 1% annually.
Naturally, the assumption is based on a high self-consumption curve corresponding to a SME or medium enterprise, but in the case of a detached house, in which the demand curve shifts to night hours, Solarwatt has launched a modular storage system called MyReserve that can store up to 11kWh of energy.
MyReserve is supplied in a compact module that includes two lithium-ion batteries of 2.2 kW each and an electronic control system. Its dimensions are 98.4 x 73.4 x 31 cm and a weight of 78kg. Batteries can be extended up to 11kWh and depth of discharge is 100%. They also provide a guarantee for the battery modules of 10 years, but ensure a lifespan of over 15 years.
One feature that differentiates this system from others in the market is that it stores energy in direct and does not transform it into alternate until power is needed for consumption, resulting in lower losses than if the energy produced is immediately transformed into alternate by the inverter.
According to the manufacturer, its photovoltaic generation and storage system costs much less than the electricity from conventional network. This statement is based on an amortization period of 15 years.
To date, as reported by Karolina Remmerswaal-de Vries, MyReserve is supplied in Germany, France and the Netherlands, but will not be available in Spain until 2017 because the batteries must adapt to the Spanish legislation.
